WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Apes and Spiders swinging all around. Matt Reeves fantastic climax to his Planet of the Apes franchise knocks Tom Holland’s Spiderman Homecoming off the top spot this week. Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened $1M shy of WAR back in 2011 but well below the $72.6 million Dawn delivered in its 2014 opening despite having the best reviews of the series. Universal and Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 finished in third with an estimated $18.9 million. TriStar’s Baby Driver has kept going this weekend, dropping just 33% in its third weekend in release for an estimated $8.75 million, bringing its domestic amount to $73.1 million.
